Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, and assist with the preparation of freshwater resources analyses, reports, designs, permit applications, construction drawings, technical specifications, and other project documentation.
  • Collaborate with engineers, ecologists, hydrologists, geomorphologists, numerical modelers, landscape architects, biologists, and other specialists to advance restoration approaches and project solutions from concept to implementation.
  • Mentor and support more junior staff, including reviewing their work for accuracy and clarity and providing constructive feedback and career development guidance.
  • Develop design and permitting documents in accordance with applicable guidelines and requirements, while delivering assignments within budget and schedule.
  • Participate in client and agency meetings, provide technical input, and assist in proposal preparation and contract negotiations.
  • Manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines, working as a team or independently in a fast-paced, challenging environment.

Requirements

  • Water resources engineer with 10+ years of professional experience, preferably in freshwater restoration design within the southeastern United States, with some project management experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in civil or environmental engineering, or a closely related discipline, and a professionally licensed engineer (PE) in Florida, if not already licensed.
  • Experience with preparing design plans for a variety of projects, knowledge of state and federal regulations, and proficiency in Microsoft tools, design and mapping software, and hydrodynamic and water quality numerical simulation modeling.
  • Experience with stormwater hydrology and hydraulic modeling, performing field inspections of water control structures, and gathering and analyzing data.
  • Strong communication skills, ability to work independently, and confidence in working in various weather and terrain conditions.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean DMV record.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in hydrodynamic and water quality numerical simulation modeling and analyses, ArcGIS Pro and Hydro Tools, familiarity with Florida ecosystems, experience with performing construction observations, surveying and field data collection, and performing drainage design for Department of Transportation projects.
  • Skills in identifying vegetation and/or soils, and comfort working in and around freshwater.
  • Experience with identification of vegetation and/or soils, and comfort working in and around freshwater, are able to walk long distances carrying a backpack, and able to lift at least 50 pounds.
  • Certified/Trained Boat Operator.

Skills

  • Proficiency in hydrodynamic and water quality numerical simulation modeling and analyses (Princeton Ocean Model, EFDC, CH3D, WASP, CE-QUAL-ICM, CE-QUAL-W2, QUAL2K) in rivers, lakes, estuaries, and/or coastal areas.
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS Pro and Hydro Tools.
  • Familiarity with Florida ecosystem.
  • Experience with performing construction observations.
  • Experience with surveying and field data collection.
  • Experience with performing drainage design for Department of Transportation projects.
  • Skills in identification of vegetation and/or soils.
  • Comfortable working in and around freshwater, are able to walk long distances carrying a backpack, and able to lift at least 50 pounds.
  • Certified/Trained Boat Operator.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $120,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.

Schedule

This is an in-office role, with the potential for hybrid flexibility with proven performance and supervisor approval. Qualified Florida remote candidates may be considered.
