Senior Videogame Tester

We are looking for a creative and resourceful Senior Videogame Tester with effective testing skills, a clear understanding of QA best practices, and a passion for narrative-centric RPG videogames set in an alternate-history 1930s New York City. The ideal candidate enjoys working with a talented, cross-functional remote team, empathizes with both new players and genre experts, and thrives in an iterative, collaborative development environment.

This is a remote position requiring residence within the UTC-4 to UTC-8 timezones and regular collaboration during core work hours of 9:30 AM – 4:30 PM Pacific. Occasional late-evening calls may be needed for international collaborators. The role is contract-to-hire with the potential to convert to full-time employment based on location, skills, fit, and project needs.

Responsibilities

  • Test our videogames for bugs and other quality deficiencies, supporting our QA processes.
  • Validate enhancements and bug fixes.
  • Research and champion tools and processes that contribute to product quality.
  • Evaluate each sprint’s build for quality regression.
  • Test games on various hardware and platforms.
  • Participate in the development, organization, and execution of Test Plans and Test Cases.
  • Create and contribute to reports on product quality.
  • Represent the customer as their advocate for quality and value.
  • Provide feedback and creative solutions for development quality, including design, programming, narrative, art, and audio.
  • Actively collaborate with the development team, openly communicating progress and problems.
  • Assist in coordinating and executing internal and external testing efforts.
  • Balance and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines, working within agreed timeframes and budgets.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of professional experience testing narrative or turn-based videogames on PCs and consoles.
  • Understands videogame testing best practices and UI/UX conventions of modern game design.
  • Enthusiasm for and familiarity with many videogame titles and genres, past and present.
  • Shares our love for history and skilled in historical research.
  • Self-disciplined, motivated, and detail-oriented, able to work fast or carefully as needed.
  • Courteous and patient, able to give and receive constructive feedback gracefully.
  • High emotional intelligence and respected professionally across disciplines.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, resourceful, and adaptable to changing needs.
  • Strong written, visual, and verbal English communication and presentation skills.
  • Experienced using Unity and testing games within the engine.
  • Proficient in business productivity tools (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio).
  • Passionate about the videogame industry and eager to learn new tools and techniques.

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience with test automation techniques and tools.
  • Familiarity with tactical RPG videogames.
  • Understanding of non-linear narrative structures and their testing complexities.
  • Experience in videogame design and/or programming.
  • Familiarity with design diagramming techniques using UML.
  • Proficiency in digital art and modeling tools (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Blender).
  • Location in one of our hub metros: Seattle, Los Angeles, Austin, Edmonton.
  • Avid TTRPG player.
  • Multilingual.

Pay

$32 – $36 USD per hour, depending on skills and experience.
