Senior Vice President, Transportation Planning (Part-Time)

WSP is seeking a part-time Senior Vice President of Transportation Planning for our New York, NY office. This role provides regional and multi-sector leadership to ensure transportation planning subject matter expertise, technical deliverables, and programs meet or exceed industry standards.

You will provide strategic and consistent direction to address current and future planning challenges in a large-scale, multi-faceted business organization. Responsibilities include innovation and administration of subject matter expertise, ensuring corporate compliance with all local, state, and federal agency regulations.

Responsibilities

• Provide proactive and strategic process and people leadership for the design, implementation, and administration of the planning discipline’s project and program involvement.
• Lead complex, large-scale transportation planning projects, including budget oversight, performance monitoring, profitability, and supervision of subcontractors and staff.
• Drive compliance and accountability with applicable federal, state, and local planning practices, approval processes, zoning laws, policies, and regulatory requirements.
• Oversee the internal vision and mission for the planning discipline, ensuring alignment with business operations strategy and continuous improvement of certifications, accreditations, and client value ratings.
• Lead planning discipline meetings and continuing educational opportunities to foster innovation, development, and quality project delivery.
• Provide leadership for proposals, project work scopes, pricing, budget, and performance metrics for the planning discipline.
• Interpret and summarize data for complex projects, ensuring sound planning and regulatory conclusions to minimize community, environmental, and economic impacts.
• Lead multi-disciplinary project teams and provide high-level strategic advice to clients.
• Develop high-level business contacts and a client base for transportation planning, permitting, approval, and impact assessment services, including business development and cross-selling opportunities.
• Remain current in transportation planning practices, regulations, and techniques, collaborating with professionals across disciplines to deliver "trusted advisor" services and Future-Ready solutions.
• Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company resources and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Requirements

• Master’s Degree in Transportation Planning, Urban Planning, Environmental Planning, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• 15+ years of Transportation Planning experience in a corporate environment.
• Strong working knowledge of relevant planning practices, approval processes, zoning laws, permitting requirements, and applicable local/state/federal regulatory frameworks.
• Demonstrated ability to establish, implement, and manage large-scale discipline-related programs, documents, projects, and practices.
• Excellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to manage staff and interact effectively at all organizational levels.
• Strategic lateral thinking and strong analytical skills with attention to detail and prioritization in high-pressure environments.
• Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including senior management, clients, and staff without formal hierarchical relationships.
• Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules and hours to meet business needs.
• Advanced proficiency with office automation, communication software, and corporate tools.
• Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and adhering to WSP’s health, safety, and harassment policies.
• Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific needs.

Pay

Expected salary range: $175,600 - $260,000, based on education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and internal equity.
