About the Role

As a Virtual Design Construction (VDC) Specialist III, you will serve as a senior team contributor, creating 3D models of electrical components for construction projects within specified schedules. You will collaborate closely with the VDC team, VDC Supervisor, Project Managers, and Field Supervisors to coordinate electrical component layouts. Additionally, you will work with Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing (MEP) Trade Partners and General Contractors, providing oversight. The role also involves occasional 2D drafting, detailing, Total Station point drawings, and other miscellaneous documentation tasks.

Responsibilities

  • 3D BIM Modeling (40%)
    • Model 3D elements from start to finish for electrical work on construction projects within the specified schedule.
    • Coordinate drawings with project needs, working with field supervisors with limited VDC supervision.
    • Finish drawings per established project schedule.
    • Provide final install drawings to project management for field personnel with limited supervision.
    • Provide final as-built models to project management for delivery to the owner.
    • Offer technical guidance and recommendations to less skilled VDC Team members as a backup to the VDC Supervisor.
    • Distribute tasks to less experienced VDC Team members assigned to specific projects.
  • Clash Detection and Resolution (15%)
    • Individually resolve clashes with other trade and building models.
  • Project Coordination Meetings (15%)
    • Attend project coordination meetings with General Contractors, MEP Trade Contractors, Architects, and Engineers to stay current on project developments, milestones, and timelines.
    • Represent the team in meetings to resolve clashes and model conflicts, potentially as the exclusive representative.
  • Software Maintenance and Knowledge (5%)
    • Maintain all required software licenses to complete work.
    • Stay current with new software to replace, supplement, and enhance existing programs for improved effectiveness.
    • Create and utilize Revit families and templates.
    • Provide recommendations on standard operating procedures within the team.
  • 2D CAD Drafting (5%)
    • Create 2D drawings of electrical work for details, prefabrication, one-lines, 2D layouts, and as-built drawings as required.
    • Produce Total Station point drawings with limited supervision.
    • Prepare as-built drawings as required.
  • Project Documentation (5%)
    • Maintain detailed and current records of all project work, including drawings, correspondence, and schedules.
    • Update drawing and project files regularly.
  • Safety/Hazard Recognition & Elimination
    • Pre-plan and identify methods to eliminate hazards daily by work task.
    • Observe and address unsafe habits and hazards of others.
    • Uphold safety as the company’s top goal, supporting zero accidents.
    • Promote open communication between field and office regarding safety concerns, suggestions, improvements, and PPE needs.
    • Obtain required safety training as expected of all company personnel.

Financial Limits of Authority: The incumbent may view financial limits for bidding, contracts, change orders, and lien waivers in a secured area of the Pieper website. It is the employee’s responsibility to stay current on these limits.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Architectural Technology or related construction degree (or equivalent construction experience) preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in Virtual Design Construction using Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Electrical contracting/construction experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, BIM 360, Navisworks, and Microsoft Suite software.
  • Preferred experience in One Model and BlueBeam.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Office 365 and One Drive) is required.
