About the role
The Senior Utility Compliance Consultant will provide strategic and tactical guidance on enhancing the development, implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of various foundational elements within the Client's compliance program framework. They will apply deep technical knowledge of compliance, risk management, and quality assurance to ensure consistent interpretation and application of compliance program maturity standards across Electric Compliance sub-functions and key partner teams.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic guidance, coaching, and hands-on support to Electric sub-functions to strengthen and mature the compliance program and improve performance
- Develop innovative tools and solutions to support/improve compliance program maturity
- Audit Electric sub-function compliance programs
- Support the development and implementation of Electric’s Compliance Controls Program by providing expert advisory support to cross-functional partners (operations, engineering, SMEs, compliance support teams)
- Lead or support maintaining a complete and accurate inventory of regulatory requirements, including identifying requirement owners, and mapping requirement to guidance documents, controls, and trainings
- Identify new or changing regulatory, operational, or risk concerns that may impact maturity expectations and recommend updates to programs or tools
- Conduct and support compliance reviews with Electric sub-function leaders, facilitating compliance assessments and recommending corrective actions aligned to regulatory requirements and risk priorities
- Prepare and deliver clear, executive-ready reports and briefings on compliance maturity performance, risks, and opportunities for improvement
- Serve as a subject matter expert on compliance program maturity practices, supporting knowledge sharing/benchmarking across the organization
- Evaluate and analyze regulatory requirement and internal commitment challenges to determine extent of condition and remediation efforts
- Develop and present program challenges and program improvement recommendations to directors and officers
- Develop and coordinate preparation of presentation materials for various levels of management up to and including senior vice president
- Lead and develop materials for training and educating coworkers about compliance management principles
- Aid with other compliance-related projects and activities as directed
Requirements
- Proven ability to design and lead implementation of compliance governance models that drive operational alignment and accountability
- Strong understanding of utility operations and asset management, with the ability to translate regulatory expectations into field-executable strategy
- Demonstrated success leading cross-functional, high-impact initiatives through risk-based planning, change leadership, and strategic execution
- Executive communication skills and presence, with experience delivering high-impact presentations and updates to senior leadership and external stakeholders
- Ability to align compliance strategy with enterprise goals, influencing direction across functions through collaboration, insight, and strategic clarity
- Deep knowledge of utility regulatory frameworks (e.g., CPUC, FERC, NERC, WECC) and how they inform enterprise compliance strategy
Qualifications
- Required Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- Preferred Education: Master’s degree in engineering, economics, business administration or job-related field
