Senior Underwriter, Private Equity
About the role
Sompo has a unique opportunity for a Senior Underwriter in our Middle Market Private Equity Practice. Our Middle Market Private Equity Practice offers diverse multi-line capabilities targeted at select industry verticals including real estate, hospitality, financial institutions, professional services, technology, and manufacturing. We work through a network of retail brokers who share our commitment to long-term partnerships built on a strong service proposition. The majority of this role’s focus will be on new business production and building new broker relationships in the Northeast.
Responsibilities
- Drive acceptable submission activity and quickly determine acceptability of risk in accordance with Sompo guidelines and standards
- Demonstrate technical expertise and product knowledge in Middle Market Private Equity P&C Insurance (Property, General Liability, Workers’ Compensation, Automobile, Umbrella)
- Prepares or analyzes information on adverse underwriting decisions, rate appeals, underwriting requirements, status, and declinations to drive results within the assigned territory while adhering to internal guidelines and strategies
- Keeps current on state/territory issues, regulations, and trends, in addition to market conditions
- Develops and maintains strong relationships with brokers, serving as the primary underwriting resource and point of contact by attending client/broker meetings, lunches, dinners, and other social outings with a minimum of 8-10 broker visits per month.
Requirements
Requires a bachelor’s degree or comparable experience, along with 2–3 years of P&C underwriting experience. Prior middle market underwriting or broking experience is strongly preferred.

Pay
$110,000-170,000. Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.
