About the role

This underwriting position is for an individual with a minimum of seven years of E&S (excess & surplus lines) experience writing medium to high hazard general liability insurance. The role involves individual account underwriting for hazard analysis, rating, pricing, and form selection, with knowledge of ISO coverage forms and industry-standard company forms. You will underwrite and manage a portfolio of hard-to-place liability risks with challenging exposures, adhering to AmTrust E&S guidelines, strategy, and profitability standards.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain a solid flow of new business opportunities, identifying growth opportunities within new and existing production sources.
  • Develop and manage broker relationships within a book of business.
  • Analyze exposures, claims experience, and pricing tools to develop risk pricing for new accounts within assigned portfolio and authority level.
  • Consistently achieve budgeted financial results (premium, loss ratio, retention, commissions, pricing, new business, premium collection, and expense management).
  • Identify and take corrective action based on risk characteristics through broker reviews, large loss analysis, and risk control.
  • Ensure compliance with underwriting strategies and regulatory requirements.
  • Stay current on legal, regulatory changes, and claim developments to contribute to product development and portfolio decisions.
  • Provide responsive service to brokers by delivering timely and accurate quotes and endorsements.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7 years of liability underwriting experience, with high-hazard, complex risks, or E&S underwriting experience highly desired (focus on construction, products liability, hospitality, and distressed premises risks).
  • BA/BS degree strongly preferred, or equivalent experience.
  • CPCU or other related insurance designations preferred.
  • Knowledge of commercial excess and surplus lines risk, classification, pricing, and coverage options, with adherence to statutory compliance and corporate guidelines.
  • Ability to execute strategic priorities, including pricing strategy, agent strategy, rate strategy, underwriting appetite, limit management, and mix of business.
  • Strong knowledge of the E&S external market and demonstrated marketing and business development experience within the wholesale distribution channel.

Pay

The expected salary range for this role is $92,000–$130,000 annually. Salaries are based on candidate skills, experience, education, training, scope and responsibilities of the role, as well as market and business considerations.
