Senior Underwriter of E&S Physicians

TDC Specialty Underwriters, Inc. (TDCSU), an Excess & Surplus lines subsidiary of The Doctors Company (the nation’s largest writer of physicians’ malpractice insurance based in Napa, California), offers primary professional liability insurance products to physicians and physician groups. TDCSU has been in existence since January 2016 and is seeking to hire experienced professionals to support its continued growth. TDCSU is headquartered in Farmington, Connecticut. TDCSU is currently seeking mid-level underwriting candidates to support the expansion of its E&S physician professional liability business segment. Responsibilities Working under the general supervision of senior segment manager and acting within authority appropriate to this position, the underwriter is expected to: assist in developing segment strategies, product development and definition of underwriting appetite and risk evaluation processdevelop and maintain productive relationships with our distribution partners,rigorously select, evaluate and secure individual accounts that meet our underwriting standards and guidelines,provide technical support and decision-making authorityparticipate in underwriting profitability evaluations and implement any necessary corrective actionconstructively engage with peers and company support areas in day-to-day decision-making and customer service TDCSU is also seeking candidates with a desire to contribute to a collaborative, motivated and professionally ambitious work environment. Preferred Candidates Should possess a strong interest in the dynamics and trends underlying the healthcare industry and related social, regulatory, economic and legal trends impacting itAdvanced degree and/or interest in acquiring RPLU or CPCU designationDemonstrated organizational, communication and negotiation skillsCommitment to technical and service excellence Requirements Bachelor's degree (4 years college) or relevant industry experience requiredFour (4) or more years healthcare/medical professional liability underwritingEquivalent experience in a broker capacity is also acceptable Proficiency with Excel, Word and demonstrated aptitude with Windows based operating systems
