Senior Underwriter, Middle Market

Sompo has a unique opportunity for a Senior Underwriter in our Middle Market Business Unit. Our Middle Market Underwriting team offers diverse multi-line capabilities targeted at select industry verticals such as real estate, hospitality, financial institutions, professional services, technology, and manufacturing. We work through a network of retail brokers who share our commitment to long-term partnerships built on a strong service proposition.

What you’ll be doing
- Demonstrate technical expertise and product knowledge in Middle Market P&C Insurance (Property, General Liability, Workers’ Compensation, Automobile, Umbrella)
- Use all appropriate underwriting tools, disciplines, and knowledge of strategies to ensure underwriting guidelines are followed
- Exhibits technical underwriting skills through strategic, thorough account reviews and file documentation
- Prepares or analyzes information on adverse underwriting decisions, rate appeals, underwriting requirements, status, and declinations to drive results within the assigned territory
- Develops and maintains strong relationships with brokers, serving as the primary underwriting resource and point of contact
- Attends client/broker meetings, lunches, dinners, and other social outings as applicable and willingness to travel to aggressively market assigned territory
What You’ll Bring
- Minimum 3 years of underwriting authority/insurance experience
- Bachelor’s Degree Preferred
- Experience in working, producing, and underwriting all sizes of accounts with large brokerage houses, agents, and specialty retailers
- Experience of successfully underwriting, quoting, and binding profitable business
- Established relationships with brokers and agents on both a regional and national level
- Strong negotiation skills, Strong attention to detail, and excellent oral and written communication skills
- Team player with grit, and collaborative by nature
Pay
Salary Range: $100,000 - $170,000
