Senior Underwriter - Inland marine

About the role
Produce, underwrite, and service profitable Inland Marine business in accordance with department guidelines. Assume a leadership role to positively influence staff and promote a positive image of MSIG in the marketplace. Develop agency relationships and build a profitable book of business.
Responsibilities
- Produce, select, and underwrite Inland Marine risks within delegated underwriting authority, including construction, transportation, or other authorized classes.
- Apply appropriate account selection, coverage, and pricing techniques according to department guidelines.
- Monitor underwriting results, premium, and loss trends within assigned book of business.
- Establish and execute effective and efficient producer and client visits (in conjunction with other internal units and Marketing Representatives) to maintain existing accounts and develop new business.
- Coordinate with inter-company departments, producers, insureds, Distribution, and Marketing Representatives to ensure high-level account management standards.
- Enhance underwriting expertise in Inland Marine, including assisting in training and development of department staff.
- Help develop and implement best practices in Account Management.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent business experience (preferable).
- CPCU or other insurance designations encouraged.
- 5+ years of Inland Marine underwriting experience with demonstrated productivity, profitability, and strong business acumen in building a profitable book of business.
- Strong knowledge and technical expertise of commercial Inland Marine exposures, risks, forms, coverages, and market capabilities.
- Strong portfolio management, production, organization, and time management skills with an understanding of company business objectives.
- Ability to travel as required for marketing, production, and producer management activities.
Pay
The base pay range for Senior Underwriter is $150,000.00 to $200,000.00. Salary determinations are based on relevant work experience, skills, certifications, and location.
