About the role
Shepherd is transforming how high-hazard industries get covered. Our mission is to make risk frictionless for builders and operators by providing faster, smarter, and more accurate underwriting solutions.
We are seeking a motivated and eager individual with at least 5+ years of experience in commercial underwriting, particularly in construction, casualty, and builder's risk. The ideal candidate should have a strong work ethic, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Responsibilities
- Develop and negotiate price, coverage, terms and conditions for all new business and renewals
- Identify target accounts that fit Shepherd’s underwriting appetite
- Leverage technology and data to make quick, informed underwriting decisions tailored to client needs
- Work closely with internal and external partners to negotiate on all levels
- Contribute to a client-centric, efficient underwriting process
- Apply risk analysis and construction/casualty underwriting knowledge
- Adapt and innovate in a fast-paced startup environment
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in commercial underwriting
- Strong work ethic and ability to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong sales and marketing skills
- Experience with compliance, coverage, products, and pricing strategies
