Responsibilities
- Build dynamic relationships, maintain a strong distribution channel, drive written premium growth, and maximize renewal retention while delivering high customer satisfaction within our footprint of Independent Agencies.
- Strengthen relationships and educate agents within agency plans to maximize opportunities and achieve profitable growth.
- Achieve new business premium, renewal premium retention, and rate change objectives.
- Evaluate new and renewal information within company guidelines and granted underwriting authority to determine risk acceptability, terms/conditions, and pricing.
- Utilize underwriting tools to determine acceptable risk characteristics, accurate exposure classifications, set adequate property limits, and review/quote business for assigned agents.
- Order and review inspections to confirm accounts written are consistent with preliminary underwriting information and act when inspections reveal unacceptable risk characteristics.
- Determine if facultative reinsurance is needed, factor reinsurance cost into gross pricing, complete cession procedures, document files, and follow established workflow procedures for proper reporting/accounting.
Requirements
- BA/BS degree preferred.
- 4+ years of experience working as an Underwriter in Commercial Property & Casualty (may consider 2+ years for an Underwriter level).
- Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining positive relationships.
- Excellent communication skills, including listening for solutions.
- Ability to collaborate with colleagues and present in a way that influences others.
- Analytical thinking to address business problems, make recommendations, and propose solutions.
- High-energy self-starter with resilience and an entrepreneurial spirit.
- Ability to sell and influence others.
- Goal-oriented achiever who delivers results.
- Basic knowledge of computer programs in a Windows environment (Word, Excel, Email) is mandatory.
- Prior experience with online underwriting tools (e.g., Silver Plume, Reference Connect) is preferred.
- Advanced professional insurance coursework (e.g., CPCU or AU) or completion of other insurance-related classes is preferred.

- Base Salary Range: $95,000 – $120,000 (actual salary determined by scope, complexity, location, skills, education, training, credentials, and experience).
