Responsibilities

  • Strengthens relationships and educates agents within agency plan to maximize opportunities and achieve profitable growth.
  • Achieves new business premium, renewal premium retention, and rate change objectives.
  • Evaluates new and renewal information within company guidelines and granted underwriting authority to determine risk acceptability, terms/conditions, and pricing.
  • Utilizes underwriting tools to assess risk characteristics, determine accurate exposure classifications, set adequate property limits, and quote business to agents.
  • Orders and reviews inspections to confirm accounts written align with preliminary underwriting information and acts on unacceptable risk characteristics.
  • Handles accounts typically ranging from $100k–$500k.
  • Travels in assigned territory up to 30% of the time.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university and 5–7 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of experience as an Underwriter in Commercial Property & Casualty.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining positive relationships.
  • Excellent communication skills, including solution-oriented listening.
  • Analytical thinking to address business problems, make recommendations, and propose solutions.
  • High-energy self-starter with resilience and an entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Ability to sell and influence others.
  • Goal-oriented achiever who delivers results.
  • Proficiency in computer programs in a Windows environment (Word, Excel, Email).
  • Prior experience with online underwriting tools (e.g., Silver Plume, Reference Connect) is preferred.
  • Advanced professional insurance coursework (e.g., CPCU or AU) or completion of other insurance-related classes is preferred.
  • Transportation underwriting experience is preferred but not required.

Pay

Base salary range: $100,000–$149,600. Eligible to participate in an annual discretionary bonus. The actual salary will be determined by factors such as scope, complexity, location, skills, education, training, credentials, and experience.
