About the role

Casella Construction is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Truck Technician to join our Maintenance team in Pittsford, VT. In this role, you will diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain Class 8 trucks, specialized heavy-duty drivetrains, and fleet equipment using advanced diagnostic systems such as Cummins INSITE, Caterpillar Electronic Technician (Cat ET), Jaltest, JPRO, or similar platforms. Experience with Allison DOC is preferred. Your expertise in heavy-duty fleet maintenance, diagnostics, engine troubleshooting, air brakes, welding, fabrication, and DOT compliance will be critical in ensuring the safety, reliability, and regulatory readiness of our fleet.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced diagnostics, troubleshooting, repairs, and preventive maintenance on Class 8 trucks, specialized heavy-duty drivetrains, chassis, drivelines, hydraulic systems, and fleet equipment
  • Conduct air brake inspections and repairs, ensuring compliance with safety regulations
  • Use diagnostic platforms such as Cummins INSITE, Caterpillar Electronic Technician (Cat ET), Jaltest, JPRO, or similar systems to identify and resolve complex engine, electrical, aftertreatment, and drivetrain issues
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot engine performance concerns, including fault codes, regeneration issues, sensor failures, communication problems, and related mechanical or electronic system failures
  • Use torches and other tools to cut, shape, and weld metal parts
  • Operate scissor lifts safely during maintenance and repair tasks
  • Support DOT compliance by understanding FMCSA requirements, DVIR processes, and CVSA Out-of-Service criteria related to commercial vehicle inspections and repairs
  • Implement Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures when working on equipment
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, parts used, and labor hours
  • Collaborate with other technicians and team members to ensure efficient workflow
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in truck technology
  • Obtain and maintain necessary certifications, including Class A CDL, Class B CDL, LNG (Cummins preferred), Paccar, Cummins, and Eaton/Fuller
  • Complete training requirements, both in person and online, as needed or required

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a truck technician, with 10 years of experience preferred; must have hands-on experience maintaining and repairing Class 8 trucks, specialized heavy-duty drivetrains, and complex fleet equipment
  • Air Brake Certification and HD Truck Basics Certification
  • Strong knowledge of hydraulic systems and suspension components
  • Scissor lift training and LOTO certification
  • Class A or B CDL with a clean driving record
  • Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair complex mechanical, electrical, engine, drivetrain, and aftertreatment issues using both diagnostic software and hands-on mechanical experience
  • Experience with Cummins INSITE, Cat ET, Jaltest, JPRO, or similar diagnostic systems required; Allison DOC experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of DOT compliance, FMCSA regulations, DVIR documentation, and CVSA Out-of-Service criteria
  • LNG certification (Cummins preferred) and additional manufacturer-specific certifications (Paccar, Cummins, Eaton/Fuller)

Pay

Hiring Range: $80,000.00/yr. – $90,000.00/yr. This range reflects the base pay we reasonably expect to offer for this position at the time of posting, considering current market conditions and industry benchmarks. Final and individual compensation packages are based on various factors unique to each candidate, including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related reasons.

Schedule

Shift is 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, and this position is home daily.
