Senior Transportation Planner

About the role

The Senior Transportation Planner will join the Planning Team in Arlington, Massachusetts. Arlington is a suburban community with approximately 47,000 residents, known for its residential neighborhoods, strong public schools, and accessibility to public transportation and the Minuteman Bikeway.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement transportation plans that align with the town’s long-term vision
  • Conduct traffic studies and analyze data to inform transportation policy decisions
  • Collaborate with stakeholders including residents, businesses, and other municipal departments to gather input and feedback
  • Prepare and present reports and recommendations to the Planning Board and other decision-making bodies
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal transportation regulations and guidelines

Requirements

  • A Master’s degree in Urban Planning, Transportation Engineering, or a related field
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in transportation planning
  • Knowledge of transportation planning principles, policies, and best practices
  • Experience working with local government agencies and community organizations
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in GIS software and transportation modeling tools
  • Experience with project management and budgeting
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of environmental impact assessment processes
