Senior Transportation Construction Inspector

About the role

This position is within HDR’s Construction Engineering and Inspection (CEI) program. The ideal candidate will perform construction engineering and inspection duties on highway and/or bridge construction projects, adhering to North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications, identifying discrepancies or conflicts within contract documents.
• Enforce contract documents and ensure compliance with NCDOT policies and procedures.
• Manage other inspectors and be responsible for all inspection and documentation.
• Travel to meetings, site visits, and inspections as needed.

Requirements

• Minimum of 10 years of experience inspecting transportation projects.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Licensed to operate motor vehicles in accordance with applicable state law.
• NCDOT experience preferred.
• Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Management experience a plus.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent (candidates with 8 years of relevant construction inspection experience may substitute experience for a high school diploma).
• A minimum of 5 years experience.
• Proficient with MS Office (Word/Excel/Outlook).
• Strong written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
