About the role

We’re seeking an experienced Senior Transport Consultant to join our Transport & Highways team and take on a key role, delivering high-quality transport planning and highways advice.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation of transport assessments, statements, travel plans and feasibility studies.
  • Undertake junction modelling and capacity assessments using industry-standard software.
  • Provide expert transport advice to support planning applications.
  • Liaise with clients, local authorities and stakeholders to agree appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Prepare and present clear, concise technical reports and supporting drawings/figures.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through professional, responsive service.
  • Work closely with planners, architects and engineers on multidisciplinary projects.
  • Support and mentor junior team members, sharing your knowledge and helping them develop.
  • Support bid writing and fee proposals, contributing to the development of new opportunities.
  • Manage your time and budgets effectively to deliver on client expectations.

Requirements

  • A degree in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography or a related subject.
  • 5-8 years’ experience in transport planning consultancy, including some examples of project leadership or notable contributions.
  • Strong understanding of relevant policy and guidance (NPPF, LTN1/20, Manual for Streets, etc.).
  • Proficiency in junction modelling software (Junctions 9/10, LinSig, TRICS, TEMPro, etc.).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and presentations.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage projects and deadlines.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Qualifications

  • Chartered status (CEng, CTPP, CMILT or similar) or actively working towards it.
  • Experience in sustainable and active travel strategies and decarbonisation policy.
  • Established relationships with local authority transport teams.
  • Confidence in public consultation or representing clients at planning committee.
  • Experience in business development and securing new workstreams.
  • A working knowledge of social and digital media channels with a view to using these to promote not only your work but also the business.
