Senior Transmission Line Engineer – Transmission Engineering
Join our electric transmission design team as a Senior Engineer, where you'll apply your expertise to projects ranging from small, quick turn-around tasks to large, complex transmission lines (34.5kV to 765kV). This role involves independent engineering analyses, design, and compliance with NESC, NEC, ASCE, and other standards, as well as collaboration with project planning, environmental, permitting, and construction management teams.
Responsibilities
- Perform all aspects of high-voltage overhead transmission line design, including:
- Line routing and structure spotting
- Structural analysis and design
- Foundation design
- Hardware and conductor/shield wire selection
- Material specifications
- Technical support during construction
- Design overhead transmission lines, addressing right-of-way requirements, structure spotting, line configurations, hardware, structure alternatives, and foundation options.
- Develop technical specifications, prepare bid documents, and assist clients with bid evaluation, structure procurement, and construction services.
- Prepare and review construction design documents, including plan & profiles, structure load tree drawings, structure framing, bills of materials, and foundation design drawings.
- Interpret geotechnical reports and apply findings to foundation design software (e.g., L-PILE, MFAD).
- Mentor and train junior engineers and recent graduates in transmission line design.
- Review lower-level engineering work and assignments.
- Maintain a focus on high-quality work and continuous improvement.
- Understand and accommodate client interests in project execution.
- Serve as a technical specialist in overhead transmission line design, providing consultation and guidance to project teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Structural, or Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
- 5+ years of relevant experience as a Transmission Line Engineer in consulting or utility environments.
- EIT Certificate with the ability to obtain a PE license in the near term.
- Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project) and Power Line Systems Software (PLS-CADD, PLS-Tower, PLS-POLE, CAISSON, SAG10) and ArcGIS.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for client, management, and team interactions.
- Solid understanding of project management principles.
- Willingness to comply with pre-employment screenings, including drug testing, reference, education, and employment verification, and background checks.
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. and a valid Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineering (PE) License in the U.S.
- Experience managing projects.
- Ability to work independently and meet multiple project commitments with minimal supervision.
Pay
$120,000 - $150,000 per year
