Senior Transmission Electrical Designer

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain detailed, scaled design drawings for transmission line projects with minimal supervision.
  • Develop complete design drawing packages and perform reviews of packages prepared by other team members.
  • Design overhead transmission lines ranging from 34.5kV to 230kV.
  • Perform structural analysis and design for pole, lattice, framed, and guyed structures.
  • Lead project assignments and provide guidance to junior designers and drafting personnel.
  • Collaborate with engineering and multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated and compliant designs.
  • Prepare and review bills of materials, conduit schedules, and cable schedules.
  • Support the development of conceptual layouts and design solutions using available project information.
  • Ensure all drawings and documentation comply with applicable drafting standards and document control procedures.
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews of engineering deliverables.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting schedule and budget requirements.
  • Participate in site visits and field walkdowns as needed to support project execution.
  • Deliver accurate, high-quality design work in accordance with project requirements, industry codes, and best practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in transmission line design and drafting.
  • Associate Degree, Diploma, or equivalent education and experience in Electrical Design, Drafting, or a related discipline.
  • Strong understanding of electrical regulations, industry codes, standards, and engineering practices.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and MicroStation.
  • Experience manipulating vector and raster-based drawing files within CAD platforms.
  • Experience with PLS-CADD and PLS-POLE.
  • Working knowledge of applicable industry standards and codes, including: NESC, IEEE, ANSI, IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI 318.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary engineering team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience with transmission line engineering and design projects.
  • Experience supporting utility, power delivery, or electrical infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with substation and power network design environments.
