Senior Transit Planner
Job Summary
TYLin is seeking a full-time Senior Transit Planner to be based in New York City or Northeast. This position will be part of a dynamic team that provides a range of planning services for public clients, including New York City DOT, MTA and NJ TRANSIT. This is an in-person position, though the successful candidate may work remotely with permission from manager. This position will be focused on expanding our transit planning practice in the New York City and greater Northeast market, including managing transit planning projects, developing staff, creating business opportunities, and submitting written proposals.
Responsibilities & Qualifications
Leading an interdisciplinary team on a variety of transit planning projects
Writing and reviewing technical reports and developing presentations
Understanding and interpreting data analysis results to drive development of recommendations and solutions
Managing project budgets and schedules
Helping senior leadership develop a growth strategy for the transit planning practice in the New York City market
Managing client relationships
Identifying new business opportunities and supporting business development
Representing the company at industry events
Leading proposal development
Developing and implementing internal processes that make the work product better
Active involvement with relevant industry organizations and participation in conferences and other industry events
Authoring thought leadership (articles, blog posts, etc.) on these topics

Ability to communicate clearly and persuasively
Proficiency in using spreadsheets to interpret data and conduct complex analysis
Expertise with Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator & InDesign) and ArcGIS Pro
Familiarity with interactive mapping software, like Remix
Experience managing transit planning projects at either a public agency or as a consultant for public agency work
Transit planning experience in two or more of the following additional areas:
- Transit service development
- Comprehensive operations analyses/bus network redesigns
- Bus priority/BRT planning
- Corridor studies/tactical mobility lanes
- Transit agency strategic plans
Requirements
7-10 years’ experience in the transportation planning field, including two years’ experience managing planning projects
Bachelor's degree in urban planning, transportation engineering, or related field; Master’s degree is preferred
AICP or PE certification is desirable but not required
