Responsibilities

  • Provide design oversight for the production of roadway, lighting, signing, pavement marking, traffic signals, and traffic management system design plans; intersection design; capacity and signal warrant analyses; and all aspects of an Intelligent Traffic Sub-system.
  • Assist in providing oversight of the traffic control and sequencing plans throughout the construction phase of the project.
  • Serve as a technical expert with recognized authority in an area of specialization that resolves problems of greater scope and complexity while planning and developing projects or design activities that have significant impact on major company programs.
  • Organize and supervise work of medium to large staff of professionals and technicians as needed.
  • Serve as project manager on larger projects, though project management is not the sole focus of the position.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • A minimum of 10 years' experience in ITS and traffic engineering for urban and rural highways, major and minor interchanges, and intersections.
  • Requires a professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered (e.g., Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license).
  • Knowledge of regulations of state and federal transportation agencies.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Experience using HCS, CORSIM, Synchro/SIM Traffic, and other software packages.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, presentation skills, and ability to work in a team environment.
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Large project experience, such as interstates, freeways, and highways.
  • Advanced certifications, such as PTOE, RSP1, or RSP 2.
  • Experience with Highway Safety Manual concepts and predictive analysis software.
  • Experience using VISSIM, TransModeler, HCS, CORSIM, Synchro/SIM Traffic, and other software packages.
  • Hands-on experience with MicroStation, ORD, GuideSign, and SignCAD.
  • Experience on projects for VDOT, MDOT, or DDOT.
  • Diverse experience in related fields such as toll roads, roadway design, or construction.
  • Preference given to candidates currently residing in the Mid-Atlantic (VA/MD/DC) Area.

The expected compensation range for this position depends on skills, experience, education, and geographical location:

  • Washington, DC: $143,388 - $204,840
  • Baltimore, MD: $125,465 - $179,235
  • Fulton, MD: $131,439 - $187,770
  • Glen Allen, VA: $119,490 - $170,700
  • Vienna, VA: $143,388 - $204,840
  • Virginia Beach, VA: $119,490 - $170,700

Schedule

Full-time, regular employee status.

Primary location: United States-Virginia-Vienna. Other locations: United States-District of Columbia-Washington DC, United States-Virginia-Glen Allen, United States-Maryland-Baltimore, United States-Virginia-Virginia Beach, United States-Maryland-Fulton.
