Senior Thermal Engineer

About the role

CesiumAstro is seeking a Senior Thermal Engineer to design, analyze, and validate thermal control systems for next-generation satellite, spacecraft, and aerospace products. The ideal candidate will have deep experience in spacecraft and satellite electronics thermal management, strong communication skills for customer and management interactions, and the ability to collaborate across integrated engineering teams from concept through qualification.

Responsibilities

• Lead thermal design and analysis for electronics, PCBA, box, and system-level applications.
• Develop thermal resistance networks and reduced-order models for complex systems.
• Correlate thermal models with thermal chamber or TVAC test results.
• Create analysis automation tools using spreadsheets or scripting.
• Collaborate with electrical and mechanical engineers to deliver optimized thermal solutions.
• Prepare and present engineering design review materials to customers and upper management.
• Participate in proposal-writing efforts.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science (BS) or higher in Mechanical, Thermal, or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university.
• 5 years of industry experience in thermal/mechanical design and analysis using numerical and analytical techniques (a Master of Science may count as 2 years).
• Expertise in electronics/PCBA, box, and system-level thermal design and analysis.
• Proficiency in ANSYS (preferred) or Thermal Desktop, and MCAD tools such as SolidWorks (preferred).
• Strong foundation in mechanical engineering and heat transfer.
• Experience designing and analyzing radiative, conductive, and convective heat transfer for various applications.

Preferred Experience

• Thermal management of phased array and/or high-power RF electronics.
• Thermal analysis of electronics at the die, lead-frame, and package level.
• Proficiency with computational scripting languages (Matlab, Python, Mathematica, etc.).

Pay

$133,000 – $161,000 a year. Offers consider role responsibilities, experience, education/training, and key skills.
