About the role

The Therapeutic Area Specialist (TAS) is a critical role in our customer model, executing Bristol Myers Squibb’s aspiration to deliver impactful engagement with Health Care Providers (HCPs) and drive adoption of new and existing medicines for appropriate patients. The TAS builds and maintains strong professional credibility with regional thought leaders (RTLs), community-based physicians/HCPs, office staff, and other stakeholders in the patient care continuum as their primary point of contact. This field-based role prioritizes the safe and appropriate use of BMS products while focusing on business results, performance objectives, and exemplifying BMS values. A TAS is anticipated to spend 100% of their time in the field with external customers.

Responsibilities

  • Portfolio Promotion
    • Promotes approved indications of BMS products within a defined territory or region to meet or exceed assigned sales targets in a compliant manner.
    • Creates demand for BMS medicines by articulating the clinical and scientific rationale for use in appropriate patients.
    • Engages with and maintains a high level of scientific expertise in all assigned products and therapeutic areas.
    • Prepares and implements comprehensive territory and account plans.
    • Proactively uses tools such as CE3 to derive insights and dynamically inform call plans.
    • Provides feedback on tool usage to leadership for continuous improvement.
  • Fair & Balanced Scientific Dialogue
    • Demonstrates scientific expertise and passion using approved resources to present medically accurate information to HCPs.
    • Conducts in-office presentations (e.g., lunch and learns) and discusses product-related scientific information consistent with label.
    • Organizes external speaker programs, selecting approved speakers and facilitating scheduling and logistics.
    • Maintains expertise on emerging data for approved indications.
    • Engages real-time medical support through Medical on Call for unsolicited questions and complex technical inquiries.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration
    • Proactively collaborates with other field teams to ensure the best Customer Experience (Cx) for HCPs.
    • Gathers and shares relevant insights internally to enable BMS to better serve its customers.
    • Complies with all laws, regulations, and policies governing BMS conduct.

Requirements

  • Advanced scientific degree and/or preferred 5+ years of pharmaceutical or biotechnology experience in healthcare sales, MSL, HCP, or nursing roles.
  • Experience in Hematology/Oncology required.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate scientific or clinical data accurately and convincingly to help physicians best serve their patients.
  • Proven track record of building and maintaining strong credibility with key customers, office staff, and others in the customer influence network.
  • Strong account management skills, superior selling competencies, and a history of meeting or exceeding sales goals.
  • Ability to work effectively cross-functionally with a positive team mindset.
  • Offers of employment are contingent upon meeting the requirements of a “Qualified Driver,” including:

    • A driver’s license in good standing issued by your state of residence.

Pay

Field - United States - US: $144,500 - $175,100 (starting compensation range for full-time employees). Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities may be available based on eligibility. The starting pay rate accounts for required skills, job location, work schedule, and experience. Final compensation will be determined based on demonstrated experience.

      • Summer hours flexibility.
      • Leaves of absence for medical, personal, parental, caregiver, bereavement, and military needs.
      • Annual Global Shutdown between Christmas and New Year’s Day (for all global full- and part-time employees actively employed at year-end).

*Eligibility Disclosure: The summer hours program is for U.S. office-based employees due to the unique nature of their work. Field sales, manufacturing operations, and capability centers may have limited or no eligibility. Remote-by-design or lab-based roles may qualify depending on work nature. Employees under collective bargaining agreements should consult their documents. Contractors and leased workers are not eligible.
