Senior Test Automation Mechanical Engineer (Onsite)

U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance. The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued Secret DoD security clearance is required; an active and existing clearance is required after day one.

About the role

Develop test hardware and software, from requirements definition through build and integration processes, followed by deployment to manufacturing or customer facilities. Design, support, and integration skill sets may include multiple disciplines in communications, RF, analog, digital, firmware, as well as systems integration.

Responsibilities

• Design test solutions leveraging in-depth knowledge of computer architecture, COTS equipment, interconnects/interfaces, and standard communication protocols.
• Apply mechanical-engineering skill sets (Cadence and/or AutoCAD design capture) to design and develop test adapters and fixturing; AutoCAD knowledge is a plus.
• Prepare and present work products at project status meetings, including defining and leading Preliminary and Detailed Design Reviews.
• Meet established project budget, schedule, and performance commitments.
• Function autonomously with limited supervision as an individual contributor within a multi-functional team environment.
• Support Manufacturing operations through on-site troubleshooting and debugging, both independently and in collaboration with production and design engineering teams.

Requirements

• Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years of prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in engineering design and development, preferably related to test-equipment development efforts.
• Experience working in an engineering laboratory and transitioning automated solutions to production environments, delivering hardware and software deliverables, and providing on-site training to final operators.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with National Instruments’ software suite, including TestStand, LabWindows/CVI, and/or LabVIEW.
• Hardware station design efforts utilizing rack instrumentation, PXIe/MXI, VME application development.
• Experience with Digital, RF, and/or Power Supply test hardware and/or software design.
• Technical writing skills using MS Word, Excel, and Visio.
• Understanding of engineering processes: CMMI, Six Sigma.

Pay

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD – 165,200 USD. The range is a good-faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including role, function, responsibilities, work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
