About the role
The Specialty Pharmacy Tech performs the technician responsibilities in specialized areas of pharmacy practice under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist or licensed independent practitioner. Demonstrates advanced technical skills and ownership of the work area. Demonstrates the ability to competently work independently in defined specialized areas of pharmacy practice.
Responsibilities
- Trains in an advanced Specialist Pharmacy Technician job functions
- Assumes local and/or system responsibility for assigned tasks related to advanced specialist job positions
- Participates in the training of new employees
- Fills and delivers medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist/licensed independent practitioner as required by specialty position
- Tripses and escalates any questions or issues outside the pharmacy technician's scope of practice as needed
- Uses appropriate systems for processing patient information
- Ensures quality assurance is maintained according to departmental and legal requirements
- Operates pharmacy equipment appropriately
Requirements
- A pharmacy technician license is required in the state of practice
- A Virginia Pharmacy Tech License is required
- A CPhT License (Received through the NHA or PTCB) is required
- 5 Years Pharmacy Experience is required
- 2 Year IV or Sterile Compounding Experience is required
Qualifications
- A High School Diploma or Equivalent is required
