Senior Technician - Philadelphia, PA
About the Role
This position is available to Veterans, Transitioning Military, National Guard and Reserve Members, Military Spouses, Wounded Warriors, and their Caregivers. The Senior Technician is a heavy equipment mechanic specializing in the modernization and repair of cranes. This role involves routine maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, upgrades, and solving complex problems when cranes malfunction. The Senior Technician leads field technicians and acts as a liaison between management and customers in a safety-first environment.
HCSG is a 24/7 service company requiring technicians to be available on-call, including after-hours and weekends, to meet customer needs.
Responsibilities
- Be on-call and provide after-hours services as required.
- Troubleshoot, repair, inspect, and upgrade industrial hoists and cranes at customer locations.
- Train and mentor field technicians.
- Perform OSHA-required hoist and crane inspections and generate inspection reports and repair orders.
- Communicate daily with the Service Manager and Branch Manager to schedule and complete work.
- Consult with customers regarding repair and safety issues, and provide recommendations for service improvements.
- Maintain all company-issued equipment, vehicles, and assets in safe working order.
- Operate tools, equipment, and vehicles safely and responsibly; report deficiencies to supervisors.
- Maintain a supply of HCSG forms and miscellaneous materials in the company vehicle.
- Work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Attend company-provided trainings and seminars as required.
- Participate in the HCSG 5 Marks program.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- At least 5-7 years of crane repair experience, or 3-4 years of electrical and/or mechanical experience in lieu of crane repair and maintenance.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test and background check (DISA) and submit to random and annual drug testing.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
- Must commit to working and driving safely.
- Must be willing to work at heights exceeding 50 feet.
- Must have basic computer skills to work with web-based crane inspection programs.
- Must communicate effectively and work independently or as part of a team.
- Knowledge of hand tools and/or possession of personal hand tools.
Physical Demands
The work is labor-intensive. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs daily and up to 100 lbs on rare occasions. The position requires frequent climbing, balancing, stooping, crouching, overhead reaching, bending, squatting, prolonged standing, and sitting (90% of the time). Occasional pushing, pulling, kneeling, and crawling are also required. The role involves excellent hand-eye coordination and working at heights exceeding 50 feet daily.
Travel is required (20-50%), including out-of-town travel at the company’s discretion. Must be available for various shifts, on-call duties, and overtime to accommodate customer and branch needs.
Work Environment
Work is performed inside or outside, depending on customer requirements, with exposure to extreme temperatures (e.g., exceeding 120°F in summer). The role involves frequent exposure to noise, heights, fumes, dust, and odors.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Vocational/Technical training certificate preferred.
Pay
$5,000 sign-on bonus.
Schedule
Full-time position. On-call availability, including after-hours, weekends, and overtime, is required. Travel up to 25% may be necessary.
