Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee complex site and land development designs, including grading, drainage, roadway geometry, utilities, and erosion and sediment control.
- Perform and/or review technical analyses, calculations, and engineering designs to ensure accuracy, quality, and compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations.
- Serve as the technical authority on assigned projects, resolving design challenges and providing guidance on best practices.
- Ensure designs are constructible, cost-effective, and aligned with project scope and client expectations.
- Provide ongoing technical mentorship and support to Project Managers and junior engineering staff.
- Aid Project Managers with technical decision-making, scope definition, and risk mitigation.
- Support project execution by reviewing deliverables at key milestones and offering constructive feedback.
- Help standardize design approaches, tools, and workflows to improve technical consistency and efficiency.
- Lead internal quality control and quality assurance reviews for site and land development projects.
- Identify potential technical risks early and collaborate with Project Managers to develop mitigation strategies.
- Promote adherence to company standards, procedures, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Participate in technical discussions with clients, municipalities, and regulatory agencies as needed.
- Support Project Managers during client meetings, presentations, and jurisdictional reviews.
- Aid in responding to technical inquiries, plan review comments, and permitting requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required (multi-state licensure preferred).
- 10+ years of progressive experience in site and land development engineering.
- Proven experience leading technical design efforts and reviewing complex civil engineering plans.
- Strong knowledge of local, state, and federal permitting requirements and design standards.
- Proficiency with civil design software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D and related tools).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience providing technical mentorship or serving as a technical resource for project teams.
- Strong understanding of construction methods and coordination with contractors.
- Experience supporting multiple project teams or offices in a technical leadership capacity.
