Senior Technical Environmental Compliance Specialist
About the role
This Opportunity WSP USA is Seeking a Senior Technical Environmental Compliance Specialist for our Atlanta, GA location.
Responsibilities
- Protects the Department of Aviation by ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, regional, and local environmental laws, regulations, permits, and regulatory requirements.
- Serves as the Department's senior technical authority for environmental compliance and leads the execution of regulatory compliance programs supporting airport operations and capital improvement projects.
- Manages environmental compliance activities associated with stormwater, wastewater, surface water quality, industrial discharges, deicing operations, construction stormwater, spill prevention, spill response, and related regulatory requirements.
- Provides technical leadership for permit compliance, inspections, environmental monitoring, reporting, corrective actions, regulatory notifications, and compliance documentation.
- Reviews permits, regulations, agency guidance, technical data, engineering documents, construction plans, and operational changes to identify compliance risks.
- Collaborates with regulatory agencies, airport departments, consultants, contractors, tenants, and airlines to ensure compliance obligations are implemented.
- Directs field investigations, inspections, and corrective actions.
- Supports capital improvement projects through environmental reviews, SWPPP implementation, erosion and sediment control oversight, construction inspections, and contractor environmental compliance.
- Independently interprets environmental regulations, permit requirements, technical standards, and agency guidance to develop compliance strategies, evaluate environmental risks, recommend corrective actions, prioritize field activities, and support Department decision-making.
- Provides senior technical direction to consultants, contractors, inspectors, airport staff, and multidisciplinary project teams. Directs technical work, coordinates compliance activities, and monitors performance against regulatory requirements, permit conditions, schedules, and Department priorities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geology, Biology, Chemistry, Natural Resources, or a related field.
- 7 to 10 years of progressively responsible experience in environmental compliance, environmental permitting, stormwater management, wastewater compliance, water quality monitoring, environmental engineering, regulatory compliance, or a closely related field.
- Experience must include leading complex technical assignments, managing regulatory compliance activities, and directing or coordinating the work of consultants, contractors, inspectors, or multidisciplinary project teams.
- Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations; Clean Water Act; NPDES permitting; industrial stormwater; wastewater pretreatment; Georgia construction stormwater requirements; erosion and sediment control; environmental monitoring; environmental auditing; regulatory reporting; and construction compliance.
- Strong analytical, communication, organizational, problem-solving, and technical leadership skills.
- Valid Georgia driver's license required. Georgia Level 1B Erosion and Sedimentation Control certification required within a timeframe established by the Department.
- CPESC, CHMM, or CEP certifications are preferred.

- Experience with FAA-funded capital projects, NPDES permitting, MS4 programs, Georgia EPD regulations, environmental auditing, and consultant management is preferred.
