About the role

This in-person role is based in our Tustin, Los Angeles, or Dallas office, with the option to work remotely on Fridays. The Senior Technical Designer works on large or multiple complex projects, focusing on constructability, detailing, and coordination through all phases of design and development. The position requires extensive technical experience in design development, construction documentation, and construction administration.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare comprehensive architectural documentation and detailed construction drawings in design development and construction documentation phases using CAD and BIM software.
  • Collaborate with structural, mechanical, and electrical engineers to integrate all aspects of project design.
  • Conduct site visits during the Construction Administration phase to verify existing conditions and ensure alignment with design intent.
  • Interpret project leaders’ directions into professionally completed documents or products.
  • Ensure design documentation complies with applicable building codes, zoning laws, and regulations.
  • Produce working drawings, design sketches, presentation drawings, shop drawings, diagrams, schedules, and other required documents.
  • Implement processes to reduce risks and exposure in all areas of a project.
  • Ensure construction documentation is accurate, with responsibility for quality assurance and code compliance.
  • Coach and mentor others to foster a collaborative and educational work environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture or related field.
  • Environmental accreditation preferred.
  • 15+ years of experience in large architectural projects, including urban and resort hotels.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Strong understanding of BIM technology, construction management software, and construction administration practices.
  • Familiarity with local and national building codes and standards.
  • Sketching skills required.
  • Thorough knowledge of architectural production standards, detailing, building materials, and construction documents.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership and ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting high standards.
  • Ability to work on several projects simultaneously with multiple deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and graphic communication skills, as well as strong organizational skills.
  • Proven experience in motivating and inspiring others.
  • Travel may be required.
