Senior Technical Business Intelligence Analyst (Epic/Transplant)
About the Role
As an integral member of the Analytics Team, the Senior Technical Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst provides advanced technical expertise in one or more analytics toolsets to support the creation of information-based, business intelligence deliverables relied upon by organizational leaders for critical business decisions.
The role works with clinical, administrative, and operational stakeholders across the System to deliver advanced analytical tools—including complex data extracts, data integration, reports, and advanced dashboard visualizations—that drive insights, uncover opportunities, and support data-informed decision-making. The Senior Technical BI Analyst defines problems, facilitates data sourcing, delivers analytics tools, and implements solutions for ongoing use.
This position troubleshoots complex technical issues, serves as a senior technical advisor to other BI analysts, and may integrate disparate data sources into an Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) through ETL or normalization processes.
Responsibilities
- Advise, support, and train fellow members of the Analytics Team and individual analytics efforts across the System on technical business intelligence tools, concepts, processes, and techniques.
- Serve as an advanced-level technical advisor, offering mentorship, education, and training to peers.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to enhance knowledge of business, clinical, and administrative processes and applications.
- Partner with customers to design, develop, and implement high-level analytics tools that drive actionable insights for operational, strategic, and tactical metrics.
- Evolve Memorial Hermann’s Analytics Maturity Level in partnership with the Analytics team, incorporating descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive analytics.
- Contribute to the data architecture strategy, implementation plan, and customer-delivered toolset.
- Actively participate in and support the Memorial Hermann Data Governance Program.
- Create regular and ad-hoc user-friendly reports and visualizations for executive and client review.
- Continuously improve analytics services and operations by detecting and resolving data anomalies proactively and championing emerging technologies and techniques.
- Provide support for data model quality, integrity, and validity analysis, resolving deficiencies in analytic, reporting, and visualization applications.
- Further analytics knowledge and skills to ensure Memorial Hermann remains at the forefront of the healthcare industry.
- Support curriculum development and train new analytic professionals to meet established standards.
- Ensure safe care to patients, staff, and visitors by adhering to Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards.
- Promote individual professional growth and development through continuing education and skills competency.
- Model Memorial Hermann’s service standards by providing safe, caring, personalized, and efficient experiences.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, management information systems, data science, business administration, statistics, or a related field (or equivalent experience). Master’s degree highly preferred.
- Technical certifications in relevant applications (e.g., Tableau) strongly preferred. Associate Certified Analytics Professional (aCAP) or another vendor-neutral analytics certification is a plus.
- Advanced proficiency in one or more of the following tools (credentials/certification preferred):
- Database and Query Languages: CCL, SQL, Nomad, Oracle, Vertica, Snowflake
- Visualization tools: Tableau (preferred), Spotfire, Sisense, Qlik, or Microsoft Power BI
- Data Visualization Server Administration: Tableau Core and Data Management Server
- Data Prep/Transformation tools: Tableau Prep, Hadoop, Alteryx, Paxata, Trifacta, Altair, Talend
- Statistical tools: R, SAS, SPSS, Matlab, Minitab
- Data Science tools: R, Python, SAS, Dataiku, DataRobot, Cnvrg, Anaconda
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite: Excel (Pivot tables, VBA, Macros), Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Access.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience collaborating with customers on the design, creation, and execution of analytics deliverables.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience building complex self-service analytic reports, dashboards, and tools supporting decision-making and metric monitoring.
