Tax Duties

  • Review and prepare, if necessary, multistate sales and use tax returns and other state and local miscellaneous tax returns.
  • Review and prepare, if necessary, multistate property tax returns and valuations.
  • Review property tax payments prior to remittance.
  • Estimate sales and use tax associated with major capital investment.
  • Prepare and review schedules which provide budgeting and forecasting data related to property tax liabilities in future years.
  • Provide multistate tax guidance for contracts and purchases of materials and equipment.
  • Defend multistate sales and use tax audits, including the review and analysis of supporting documentation as well as supporting schedules related to audit findings.
  • Research various state and local tax issues.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with new tax laws and regulations.
  • Aid in implementing planning opportunities and process improvements.
  • Aid in responding to information requests from multiple regulatory commissions.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field.
  • Minimum Experience: Tax Specialist, Sr Staff with 8+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Advanced Degrees: MBA is a plus.
  • Certifications/Licenses: CPA, JD, and/or CMI designation is a plus.
  • Experience: Utility industry experience is preferred.
  • Skills: Strong computer and technology skills, proficiency in tax technology tools (SAP, Thomson Reuters OneSource, PowerPlan), Microsoft Office products (primarily Excel), Adobe Acrobat, strong interpersonal, oral and written communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, ability to use tax research tools such as CCH, Checkpoint or LexisNexis.

Working Conditions

  • Available to work additional hours, to work in alternate locations, and/or to perform additional duties in connection with storms, outages, emergencies, or other situations as deemed necessary by the company.
  • Exempt employees may not be paid overtime associated with such duties.
