About the Role
As a Senior Tax Manager, you will oversee and manage complex tax engagements, focusing on individual, fiduciary, estate, and gift tax matters. You will serve as a key technical resource for both clients and internal teams, ensuring accurate, timely compliance and proactive planning. Your leadership will help drive process improvements, maintain quality standards, and support the firm's growth objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage multiple complex tax engagements for individuals, trusts, estates, and gift tax clients from planning through completion.
- Review and sign off on tax returns, ensuring accuracy, compliance with current tax laws, and adherence to firm standards.
- Provide technical guidance and tax planning strategies to clients, addressing sophisticated estate, gift, and fiduciary issues.
- Supervise, coach, and develop tax staff and seniors, providing feedback, training, and performance guidance.
- Collaborate with partners and other managers to identify opportunities for additional client services and tax planning initiatives.
- Monitor changes in tax legislation and communicate implications to clients and internal teams.
- Oversee workflow, budgeting, and scheduling for assigned engagements to ensure deadlines and profitability targets are met.
Key Requirements
- 8+ years of progressive tax compliance experience, with a strong focus on individual, fiduciary, estate, and gift taxation.
- Recent public accounting experience with demonstrated success managing multiple concurrent engagements.
- Proven ability to review complex returns and resolve advanced technical tax issues.
- Strong client relationship management skills, with experience serving as a primary point of contact.
- Demonstrated leadership experience, including supervising and developing tax professionals.
- Advanced proficiency with tax preparation and research software, as well as MS Office applications.
Desirable Skills
- Experience with high-net-worth individuals and closely held business owners.
- Background in tax planning for wealth transfer, trusts, and charitable giving strategies.
- Familiarity with multi-state tax issues impacting individuals and trusts.
- Experience contributing to internal process improvements and best practices in a tax department.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting required.
- IRS Enrolled Agent (EA) certification or CPA required.
- Additional relevant tax certifications or advanced tax coursework considered an asset.
