About the role
The Senior Associate, Tax will support the tax function across AJCP’s investment vehicles and operating platforms. This role will assist with tax compliance, reporting, structuring, and planning initiatives throughout the investment lifecycle while partnering closely with AJCP’s accounting team and third-party tax advisors.
Responsibilities
- Support the management of third-party tax preparers for federal, state, and local tax filings, extensions, quarterly estimates, and investor reporting across AJCP’s investment vehicles
- Aid in reviewing tax workpapers, book-to-tax adjustments, allocations, tax forms, and K-1s to help ensure accurate and timely filings
- Collaborate with accounting, fund, and investment teams to support tax compliance and reporting requirements throughout the investment lifecycle
- Develop a working understanding of AJCP’s investment structures, operating agreements, debt arrangements, management agreements, leases, and other significant contracts
- Support tax structuring and planning initiatives related to acquisitions, dispositions, financings, and ongoing operations
- Aid in REIT compliance testing and Qualified Opportunity Zone compliance requirements
- Prepare and maintain taxable income estimates and other investor-related tax reporting deliverables
- Coordinate recurring meetings and information requests with external tax advisors and internal stakeholders
- Aid in responding to federal, state, local, and international tax filings tax notices and related inquiries
- Help maintain tax compliance calendars, filing trackers, and internal documentation to support timely execution across the tax function
- Partner with the VP, Tax, accounting team, and external advisors to prepare internal tax and structuring memoranda for investments and transactions
- Stay current on tax law developments, real estate industry trends, and partnership tax matters relevant to AJCP’s investment strategies
- Support additional projects and initiatives as AJCP continues to grow
Qualifications
- 2+ years of progressive tax experience with Big 4 or private equity/investment advisor firms in the real estate industry with partnership and REIT experience
- A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or another business-related field
- Licensed CPA
- Advanced MS Excel capabilities and experience with one or more tax application systems
Preferred
- An advanced degree, such as a Master of Accountancy / Taxation or a Master of Business Administration / MBA
- Knowledgeable of investment fund tax accounting concepts, including partnership tax accounting, tax allocations, management and incentive fees, PFICs, and CFCs, and experience in tax planning, structuring, forecasting, and reporting
- Experience in a broad base of real estate asset classes, including hospitality, multi-family, office, and retail
- Ability to perform under tight deadlines
- Ability to build rapport with internal and external counterparties
Pay
$90,000 - $120,000 annually
