Senior Tax & Accounting Advisor
We are seeking an experienced tax and accounting professional to help lead and grow a small, client-focused firm. Responsibilities
- Apply core accounting skills to enhance the monthly close process, including writing adjusting journal entries.
- Handle Sch C to S Corp transitions, fixed assets, lower of cost or FMV, and proof of cash.
- Work with QBO & QBD, financial statement analysis, chart of accounts setup, and KPIs/key ratios per industry.
- Develop client relationships by meeting with small business owners and individuals to understand their tax, accounting, bookkeeping, payroll, and advisory needs.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to closely held businesses and entrepreneurial clients.
- Identify areas for internal enhancement and improve systems, checklists, staff training, client communication, and workflow.
- Review and supervise bookkeeping, payroll, sales tax, financial statement, and income tax work prepared by staff.
- Assist in developing firm policies, client service standards, and future growth plans.
- Provide tax planning and advisory guidance on business structure, entity compliance, reasonable compensation, owner distributions, and related issues.
- Prepare and review individual, corporate, S corporation, partnership, and trust tax returns (1040s, 1065s, 1120-S, 1120s, 1041s, 990s).
Requirements
- Four-year degree in accounting, business, or related field.
- Intermediate to advanced technical knowledge of individual and business taxation.
- Strong communication skills with business owners and staff.
- Practical understanding of entrepreneurs and closely held businesses.
- High level of integrity, discretion, and professional judgment.
- Experience with bookkeeping software, tax software, payroll systems, sales tax, and small business compliance.
- Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA license preferred, especially with Michigan and/or Ohio licensing.
- Experience with QuickBooks, Drake Tax, and Patriot Software.
- Background in a small tax or accounting firm.
- Prior management or client advisory experience.
- Ability to review and direct the work of others.
