About the department

The Emerging Technologies & Incubation (ETI) department at Cloudflare focuses on developing new and innovative products. Leveraging our extensive network, we create solutions that are scalable and efficient, enabling us to innovate at a rapid pace.

Project Details

We are launching a new project called Cloudflare Data Platform during Birthday Week 2025. This includes extending the engineering teams working on R2 Data Catalog and R2 SQL. R2 Data Catalog manages Iceberg metadata and performs ongoing maintenance to enhance query performance. R2 SQL is our distributed SQL engine designed for handling petabyte-scale queries over data in R2.

What You'll Do

• Shape the future of industry-leading services that redefine what is possible for developers.
• Architect new globally distributed data consistency models.
• Optimize storage engine performance.
• Design novel APIs for new data-centric products.
• Work with a variety of languages and technologies including JavaScript, TypeScript, Rust, and C++.

Desirable Skills, Knowledge & Experience

• Minimum 6 years of experience working with distributed systems.
• Experience building and managing high-volume software applications.
• Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented or functional design.
• Knowledge of at least one modern strongly-typed programming language: primarily Rust, TypeScript, and Go.
• Experience debugging, optimizing, and identifying failure modes in a large-scale distributed system.
• Experience building and managing a large-scale data storage platform.
• Experience working in low-latency real-time environments such as game streaming, game engine architecture, high-frequency trading, and payment systems.
• Experience working in a non-garbage-collected language such as Rust or C++.
• Experience writing JavaScript and TypeScript.
• Deep Linux/UNIX systems knowledge.

Compensation

Compensation may be adjusted based on work location. For New York City, New Jersey, Washington, Washington DC, and California (excluding Bay Area) based hires, the estimated annual salary ranges from $185,000 to $254,000. Equity is also offered to eligible employees.
