Responsibilities
- Manage systems engineering activities including requirements analyses, functional analyses, design solutions formulation, systems analysis and control, and generation and maintenance of systems architecture products.
- Apply system engineering principles and procedures to translate quantified needs/requirements into system performance parameters and the identification of system/item configuration.
- Serve as subject matter expert for all technical aspects of assigned program.
- Perform top-level design, development, integration and troubleshooting.
- Translate military operational and mission requirements into practical system concepts and performance specifications.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation such as specifications, engineering drawings, system interface requirements, and engineering changes.
- Participate in contract post-award briefings, program reviews, design reviews, and IPTs as the project engineer and/or technical expert on assigned programs.
- Evaluate design efforts to ensure integration of all the engineering disciplines and adequacy of the analyses performed; provide additional technical expertise as needed.
- Review test plans, procedures, and reports for technical adequacy on assigned programs, for both Government and contractor tests, as well as all failure reports.
- Review and evaluate system performance against specification requirements, monitor and assess field performance, and assess risk of meeting user and specification requirements.
- Initiate engineering change proposals and waivers/deviations as required and conduct physical and functional configuration audits.
- Review program management documents to ensure accuracy and adequacy of technical content.
- Evaluate system engineering principles, procedures and process used on past programs and establish new and innovative engineering strategies.
- Identify issues and brief APM / PM on potential courses of action and their impact.
Qualifications
- Active SECRET Clearance
- Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering and 8+ years’ relevant experience.
- Subject matter expert for Systems Engineering with the ability to lead engineering efforts on assigned programs with minimal oversight from the Government lead.
- Thorough knowledge of the Systems Engineering Management Process and Implementation, as applied to the Department of Army/DOD Acquisition process throughout all life cycle phases (requirements analysis through production and deployment).
- Knowledge of DOD policies on Systems Engineering, Integrated Product and Process Development (IPPD) and IPT Management.
- Able to coordinate and negotiate design and engineering activities with other related programs and organizations.
- Experience working with Electro-Optical/Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR) systems.
- Mechanical engineering experience related to heat transfer and stress analysis due to vibration and shock effects.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer-focused approach to service delivery.
- Ability, desire, and patience to mentor a junior engineer.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Prior experience supporting DOD organizations.
Desired
- Master’s degree in Systems Engineering or Systems Management and 15+ years’ relevant experience.
- Prior experience supporting Army programs ACAT III and above.
