We are looking for a Senior Systems Engineer based in the Greater Los Angeles area who can support LA-based clients onsite. The right candidate is comfortable working hands-on in client environments, supporting production systems, and building reliable infrastructure for creative and technical teams. Position Overview The Senior Systems Engineer will design, support, troubleshoot, and improve client technology environments. This person should be able to support a studio or production environment from the ground up, including Windows, macOS, networking, storage, virtualization, backup, security, and monitoring. The ideal candidate has strong MSP experience and can work across multiple client environments. Studio, post-production, VFX, or media and entertainment experience is highly valuable. The role requires technical depth, professional client communication, and fast problem-solving in production environments. Key Responsibilities Provide onsite and remote technical support for GPL’s Los Angeles-based clientsDesign, deploy, and support infrastructure for studios, post-production companies, creative agencies, and enterprise clientsAdminister Windows, macOS, and Linux environmentsSupport shared storage platforms, high-performance workstations, creative workflows, and production networksTroubleshoot performance issues across servers, storage, networks, endpoints, and applicationsSupport Active Directory, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, DNS, DHCP, VPN, firewalls, and identity systemsManage virtualization environments such as VMware, Hyper-V, Proxmox, or NutanixAssist with backup, disaster recovery, monitoring, patching, and security hardening to comply with industry standards and prepare clients for routine auditsCreate clear documentation, diagrams, runbooks, and client environment notesWork closely with GPL account managers, project managers, engineering leadership, and field engineersEscalate issues appropriately and communicate clearly with clients during outages or production-impacting eventsHelp reduce single-person dependencies by creating repeatable systems, standards, and documentation Required Skills 7+ years of experience in systems engineering, including senior-level ownership of client environmentsExperience supporting Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and file servicesExperience supporting macOS workstations in professional environmentsStrong networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, switching, VPNs, firewalls, and DNS troubleshootingExperience with shared storage, NAS/SAN systems, permissions, snapshots, replication, and backup workflowsExperience with virtualization platforms such as VMware, Hyper-V, Proxmox, or NutanixAbility to troubleshoot complex issues across systems, networks, storage, and endpointsStrong documentation and ticketing discipline, with client-facing communication skillsAbility to work onsite throughout Greater Los Angeles as required Preferred Experience MSP experience strongly preferredMedia and entertainment, post-production, VFX, animation, editorial, or creative studio experience preferredExperience with Qumulo, Dell PowerScale/Isilon, TrueNAS, NetApp, or similar storage platformsExperience with Adobe Creative Cloud, Avid, DaVinci Resolve, Autodesk tools, render farms, or production pipelinesScripting or automation using Bash, PowerShell, Python, Ansible, or similar toolsExperience with monitoring, RMM, MDM, endpoint protection, and backup platformsCloud experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud is a plusLinux administration experience across distributions such as Ubuntu, Debian, Red Hat, Rocky Linux, AlmaLinux, or CentOS is a plus Ideal Candidate Profile The ideal candidate is a senior engineer who can walk into a client environment, understand technical and business priorities, identify risk, stabilize systems, and create a practical plan for improvement. They should be equally comfortable diagnosing storage performance, supporting a macOS workstation, reviewing firewall rules, documenting an environment, and explaining technical issues in plain English. We are especially interested in candidates who have worked in an MSP environment and understand the pace, variety, and accountability of supporting multiple clients. Location Requirement This role is based in Greater Los Angeles. Onsite work is required for GPL’s LA-based clients. Candidates must already be located in the Los Angeles area or be able to reliably support onsite client work in Los Angeles. Remote-only candidates will not be considered. Compensation & Benefits The salary range is $100,000 – $160,000 annually, based on skill and experience.
