About the role

The Senior Systems and Cloud Engineer is responsible for maintaining and administering the firm's cloud services (including SaaS, IaaS, and PaaS) as well as hardware and virtual infrastructure such as servers, appliances, server-based applications, and security devices. This role ensures high availability, security, and performance of business applications. Working with the Infrastructure Team, you will develop, implement, optimize, and maintain cloud-based solutions, deploy and migrate services to the cloud, educate teams on new cloud initiatives, and ensure cloud infrastructure security. You will collaborate with Infrastructure teams, profit centers, service desks, and Microsoft 365 support staff (levels 2 and 3), serving as a subject matter expert on enterprise workplace and collaboration projects. This position reports to the IT Infrastructure Manager and works under senior leadership direction.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and engineer Microsoft Office 365 products and Entra (Azure AD) including Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive, Power Platform, Conditional Access, MFA, Enterprise applications, and related technologies.
  • Work within a team environment, supporting IT personnel and end users.
  • Apply knowledge to maintain a secure, high-functioning environment.
  • Use critical thinking for smooth operations, troubleshooting, and issue resolution.
  • Review current technologies, tools, and services; make recommendations based on security/compliance, financial, and operational criteria.
  • Regularly review and improve existing systems and deploy new solutions.
  • Understand Microsoft licensing SKUs/models and deployment best practices.
  • Assist cyber security investigations and contribute audit-proof operational documentation.
  • Collaborate with engineering and development teams to evaluate and identify optimal cloud solutions.
  • Maintain cloud infrastructures in accordance with best practices and firm security policies.
  • Analyze new and existing public cloud services and create solutions meeting stakeholder requirements and standards.
  • Analyze and implement configuration changes; assist in designing cloud solutions to meet functional and technical requirements.
  • Modernize architecture and core technologies using cloud services and solutions.
  • Design and implement secure, scalable, and innovative solutions to meet firm requirements.
  • Create and update applicable technical documentation.
  • Identify and resolve infrastructure vulnerabilities and application deployment issues.
  • Ensure efficient functioning of data storage and processing in compliance with security policies and cloud security best practices.
  • Design and maintain servers and appliances including e-mail, file, print, database, document management, directory services, and backup servers with associated operating systems and application software, following established policies, standards, and licensing requirements.
  • Create, administer, and maintain end-user network and system accounts, permissions, and access rights, including e-mail distribution lists and memberships.
  • Design hardware and software solutions; troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software problems.
  • Provide regular and on-call technical support via phone, tickets, direct requests, and e-mail for cloud services, network, hardware, and software issues.
  • Recommend, schedule, and perform cloud services, network, hardware, and software improvements, upgrades, patches, and repairs in accordance with change management processes.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain procedures for systems and network administration.
  • Collaborate on optimal network design topologies and configurations.
  • Support research, development, and implementation of networking projects and new technology installations.
  • Perform system and data backups and recovery; assist in developing and maintaining business continuity, disaster recovery, and incident response plans; respond to emergency conditions accordingly.
  • Prepare, maintain, and adhere to procedures for logging, reporting, testing, and monitoring network performance.
  • Perform additional IT-related tasks as necessary, including user and desktop support.
  • Stay current with industry trends.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 10+ years of experience in system administration as a subject matter expert in Azure AD/Hybrid, Microsoft Servers, Linux Servers, and virtualization.
  • 3 years of cloud engineering experience as a subject matter expert in Azure AD/Hybrid, messaging/Office 365, and Teams.
