About the role
We are seeking a Senior System Safety Engineer in Huntsville, AL, to support our MDA MAPSS Safety contract. This role involves providing system safety support to the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) through data product delivery, serving as a system safety engineer and on-site safety point of contact for Flexible Target Family (FTF) Integration/Production activities and Low-Cost Target development safety oversight.
Responsibilities
- Apply overall experience in system safety, launch safety for flight test operations, and occupational safety, with extensive knowledge of ground safety range requirements.
- Provide System Safety support to MDA by delivering data products as a system safety engineer and on-site safety POC for FTF Integration/Production activities at the Missile Assembly Building and Low-Cost Target development safety oversight at Missile Range locations.
- Review and provide comments on contractor safety documentation, including Safety Assessment Reports, Hazard Analysis, Flight Safety Data Packages, and Explosive Safety Data Packages for each supported program.
- Develop Quality, Safety, and Mission Assurance charts and support Government Caucus meetings for major milestone program meetings (e.g., Product Design Reviews, Systems Requirements Reviews, Critical Design Reviews, Pre-Ship Readiness Reviews).
- Co-chair Range Commanders Council (RCC) tailoring Technical Interchange Meetings (TIM) and maintain the official version of TC Program RCC documents required by the Pacific Range Safety Team (PRST) for each program.
- Support or co-chair Ground Safety Working Groups (GSWG), Range Safety Working Groups (RSWG), and System Safety Working Groups (SSWG).
- Provide on-site MDA Safety oversight for hazardous and flight test (ground and air launch) operations performed by contractors.
- Develop and submit Interim Hazard Classification (IHC) Packages to AMCOM Safety.
- Prepare Residual Risk Assessment packages, Risk Analysis memos, and associated briefings outlining risks for Low/Medium and Serious Risk for MDA management approvals.
- Provide evaluation reports of contractor safety documentation, waivers, range relief requests, and Equivalent Level of Safety (ELSR) requests.
- Develop evaluation reports on tracking and closure of safety action items assigned during reviews.
- Develop evaluation reports on audit findings, tracking, and closure verifications.
- Record and track safety-related action items from pre-test safety reviews.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 10+ years of experience in System Safety Engineering or a Bachelor’s of Science degree with 15 years of experience in System/Software Safety.
- Active SECRET level security clearance.
