Senior System Safety Engineer

The role of Senior System Safety Engineer at RTX, located in Huntsville, AL, involves leading system safety programs, performing safety analyses, coordinating with safety representatives, and collaborating across integrated product teams.
Responsibilities
- Lead one or more MIL-STD-882E compliant system safety programs
- Perform MIL-STD-882E System Safety Program tasks and analyses, or customer's approved equivalent
- Cook up coordination with customer safety representatives to gain safety approval from appropriate Safety Review Board authorities
- Work across all integrated product teams and lines to properly eliminate hazards or provide effective controls
- Collaborate with Program Management and government approval authorities from program startup through production to demilitarization and disposal
- Brief safety of the program at technical reviews and as part of the safety approval process
- Interpret system requirements, customer specifications and military standards
- Prepare internal and customer reports describing various analyses relevant to the System Safety program
- Collaborate across multiple disciplines to gain a full understanding of product architecture and design
Qualifications
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience
- Experience with System Safety Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software or Firmware Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent Safety Engineering
- The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued Secret security clearance is required
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
- Experience leading multiple with DoD System Safety Programs thought out the entire life cycle
- Experience with briefing at the military safety review board
- Experience with Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) and Proposal Development
- Master’s Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
