Senior System Safety Engineer
About the role
This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities. This role is part of the Safety, Quality and Mission Assurance organization.
Responsibilities
- Perform and lead engineering activities including Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Preliminary Hazard Assessment (PHA), Functional Hazard Assessment (FHA), Hazard Reports, Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analyses (FMECA), reliability analysis, and developing mitigation plans
- Develop plans and coordinate completion of system and subsystem safety analysis, providing review, guidance, and expertise of safety analysis products
- Ensure traceability between system and subsystem functions, requirements, and safety artifacts
- Support verification and validation of safety and reliability requirements
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to other engineers across the program and company
- Collaborate across systems to develop best practices and find opportunities for common processes across programs
Requirements
- B.S. degree in aerospace engineering, systems engineering, or related field
- 8+ years of System Safety or Systems Engineering experience performing activities such as requirements definition, requirements traceability, functional decomposition, integration, verification, and validation
- In-depth experience with performing safety analyses on safety critical systems including: Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Preliminary Hazard Assessment (PHA), Functional Hazard Assessment (FHA), Hazard Reports, Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analyses (FMECA), reliability analysis, and mitigation plans
- Ability to lead and coordinate safety analysis products across stakeholders and experts from varying engineering fields to produce safety and reliability products
- Strong safety and mission assurance fundamentals
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, and ability to communicate technical information effectively
Qualifications
- Special Mentions: Relocation provided, Travel expected up to 20%
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience performing system safety and/or reliability analyses on satellites or human-rated in-space systems
- Experience performing compliance assessment of system safety processes and products against external standards including Range Safety, NASA, FAA, MIL-STD-882, or ARP-4761
- Experience with certification of human-rated space systems
- Process ownership and maintenance experience
