Senior System Administrator / DevOps Engineer

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer and maintain software development environments supporting Java, JavaScript, and TypeScript for two proprietary software platforms.
  • Manage Git repositories, branching strategies, and automated build processes.
  • Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot CI/CD pipelines for software builds and releases.
  • Support build automation tools such as Maven, Gradle, npm, Node.js, and related technologies.
  • Manage application servers, databases, and supporting middleware used throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Coincide software release packaging, version management, and deployment activities.
  • Monitor build environments to ensure reliability, repeatability, and performance.
  • Administer Windows servers supporting corporate and development environments.
  • Maintain Active Directory, Microsoft 365, DNS, DHCP, VPN, and related enterprise services.
  • Configure and maintain virtualized environments and cloud infrastructure as required.
  • Monitor system performance, capacity, and availability.
  • Perform operating system upgrades, software patching, and infrastructure maintenance.
  • Manage corporate cybersecurity controls and security monitoring.
  • Administer firewalls, endpoint protection, multi-factor authentication (MFA), VPNs, and identity management.
  • Monitor security alerts, vulnerabilities, and system logs.
  • Coincide vulnerability remediation and security patch management.
  • Implement security best practices for development, production, and corporate environments.
  • Manage user accounts, permissions, and privileged access controls.
  • Build, configure, deploy, and maintain employee laptops and workstations.
  • Develop and maintain standardized desktop images.
  • Manage software deployment and endpoint configuration.
  • Support remote employees with secure access and device management.
  • Maintain hardware inventory and lifecycle management.
  • Design and manage backup strategies for servers, source code repositories, databases, and business systems.
  • Regularly test backup restoration procedures.
  • Support disaster recovery planning and business continuity initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with company retention policies.
  • Monitor network infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot connectivity, performance, and security issues.
  • Maintain wireless networking, VPN connectivity, switches, routers, and firewall configurations.
  • Coincide with Internet and cloud service providers when necessary.
  • Document infrastructure, system configurations, and operational procedures.
  • Develop automation scripts to improve operational efficiency.
  • Recommend improvements to infrastructure, security, deployment processes, and system reliability.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of systems administration experience.
  • Experience supporting enterprise software development organizations.
  • Strong knowledge of: Java development environments, JavaScript and TypeScript build environments, Git version control, CI/CD pipelines, Windows Server administration, Linux administration, Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft 365 Administration.
  • Experience with: Maven and/or Gradle, Node.js and npm, Docker and containerized deployments, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, GitLab CI, or similar build systems, Virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V, etc.), SQL databases.
  • Experience administering backup and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Strong networking knowledge including TCP/IP, DNS, VPNs, firewalls, routing, and switching.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting enterprise SaaS or software product companies.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure or AWS.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks including NIST or CIS Controls.
  • Experience with vulnerability management tools and endpoint security platforms.
  • Scripting experience using PowerShell, Bash, or Python.
  • Knowledge of software licensing and release management.
  • Azure, AWS, VMware, Microsoft, or Red Hat certifications are desirable.
