Senior Survey CAD Technician

About the role
The Senior Survey Technician’s primary role is to prepare high quality survey drawings, plats, and mapping deliverables based on field data, legal descriptions, and client specifications. Ancillary duties include reviewing the collected survey data for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project scope, and providing technical guidance to junior Survey CAD Technicians.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and finalize survey drawings, including boundary surveys, topographic surveys, ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys, subdivision plats, easement exhibits, legal descriptions, construction staking, and as-built drawings
- Process and interpret field data from total stations, GPS, laser scanning equipment (Terrestrial, Aerial, Mobile)
- Perform deed research, deed plotting, deed interpretation, and boundary calculations. Ensure compliance with state, municipal, and client drafting standards
- Review and quality check (QA/QC) work prepared by junior CAD technicians
- Clock in with Project Managers, Project Surveyors, field crews, and clients to clarify project requirements and scope
- Maintain organized digital project files and templates
- Aid in developing and maintaining CAD standards, libraries, and workflows
- Support project scheduling and help meet production deadlines
Requirements
- A minimum of 5+ years of CAD Technician experience
- An Associate’s degree or technical certificate in drafting, surveying (geomatics) or a related field
- CST Level III Certificate – advantageous
- Experience with Leica Captivate
- Experience preparing ALTA/NSPS surveys and subdivision plats
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Proficiency in Microstation is a plus
- Strong knowledge of survey principles, boundary analysis, mapping standards, and calculations, including coordinate geometry
- Solid math background in geometry, trigonometry, & algebra
- Ability to read and interpret civil & surveying plans, maps, deeds, legal descriptions, and title commitments
- Problem-solving aptitude to proactively anticipate, prevent, and solve issues
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills
- Knowledge of local and state surveying requirements is a plus
- Experience mentoring or supervising junior staff
