Senior Surgical Technologist - Operating Room

About the role

The Senior Surgical Technologist position at Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital is responsible for preparing the operating room, equipment, and supplies for upcoming surgeries. Responsibilities include assisting surgeons, circulating nurses, and maintaining sterile techniques.

Responsibilities

• Prepares the operating room, equipment, and supplies for the next patient.
• Passes instruments and supplies for surgical procedures.
• Assists the circulating RN with surgical counts.
• Maintains sterile techniques during pre and post-procedures.
• Participates in debriefing and quality improvement practices.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Successful completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program or military training equivalency.
• Two years as a Surgical Technologist.

Skills and Abilities

• Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job.
• Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language.
• Effective communication with patients, physicians, family members, and co-workers.
• Understanding of medical terminology.
• Independence and sound judgment.
• Knowledge of hospital databases and procedure software.
• Proficient use of surgical instruments and supplies.
• Expertise in decontamination and autoclave equipment.
• Knowledge of multiple surgical specialties.

Qualifications

• BLS - Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA).
• Certification (CST from NBSTSA, TS-C from NCCT, or CSA from NCCSA) or meets the grandfather clause (Bill 643).
