Based in sunny Culver City, CA, we're looking for an experienced designer to help lead our talented, passionate team. Your Role: As our Senior Surface Pattern & Print Designer, you'll have the exciting opportunity to shape the look of our collections, bringing fresh, trend-forward patterns, prints and illustrations to life across our full home, gift and stationery assortment. Working hand-in-hand with our Creative Director and Art Directors, you'll take on our most exciting projects, help set the creative direction for key accounts, and mentor a team of talented designers along the way. You'll collaborate with Sales, Product Development and Production to see your designs go from sketch to shelf. This is a hybrid role based in our Culver City studio, with Monday and Friday as optional work-from-home days. What You'll Do: Leads the most complex surface pattern and print projects, designing original patterns, prints and illustrations digitally or by handPartners with the CD, ADs and LDs to build collections that shape direction for key accounts and custom businessResearches trends in color, motif and print and translates them into original, commercially viable artworkDevelops seamless repeats, engineered layouts, placement prints, coordinates and colorways with a strong command of scale, composition and colorPresents sketches and concepts for CD/AD/LD review before finalizing designsExpands artwork into cohesive collections and adapts it across products and piece types on deadlineDelivers production-ready files, with repeats, resolution, color and embellishment layers (foil, emboss, glitter) accounted forMaintains in-depth knowledge of assigned accounts, programs and buyersProvides art direction and creates line plans, mood boards and presentations for account programs, as training toward the Lead levelReviews production job packets before sign-off for assigned accountsMentors the design team by giving feedback and art direction in CD/AD/Lead absence and serving as a first point of contact for questionsCollaborates with Sales, Product Development and Production, and sets the standard for artwork quality and file organizationIn a vibrant, fast-paced environment, the possibilities for your creative expression are endless at Punch Studio! Requirements To excel as our Senior Surface Pattern & Print Designer, you'll bring: A BFA or BA in Surface/Textile Design, Illustration, Fine Arts or a related field, or equivalent experience10+ years designing surface patterns and prints for products such as stationery, wall décor, decorative storage, gift or home goods, including experience mentoring other designersA strong portfolio of original patterns and collections across a range of styles and product categoriesExpertise in repeats (half-drop, brick, mirror), engineered layouts, placement prints, composition and colorStrong illustration and traditional painting skills, with the ability to turn hand-painted work into production-ready files in Adobe Creative Suite on MacA track record of turning trends into commercially successful collectionsFull understanding of production from concept to sample, including print methods and embellishmentsExcellent organization, communication and leadership skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects on deadline What Makes You Shine: You're a self-starter filled with energy and innovative ideas, embodying the brand aestheticYou possess versatility in your artistic style, capable of exploring various techniques and looksKnowledge of surface pattern repeats, composition, and color theory is essentialYou thrive on collaboration but can also work independently, adapting to feedback with graceYour keen market insight allows you to identify trends and consumer needs easilyStrong organizational and communication skills help you manage multiple projects efficiently Cool Perks: Enjoy a hybrid work schedule that promotes work-life balance OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Positive AttitudeTeam Player PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT: This role is based on-site in an indoor office with a moderate noise level. It involves frequent sitting, with standing and walking during trade shows and customer meetings, and occasional lifting up to 25 lbs. (samples, displays, trade show materials). Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. You must be available to work irregular or extended hours, weekends, and holidays on occasion, particularly during peak seasons.
