About the role

Microsoft Silicon, Cloud Hardware, and Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) is the team behind Microsoft’s expanding Cloud Infrastructure and responsible for powering Microsoft’s “Intelligent Cloud” mission. SCHIE delivers the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Teams, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform globally. The Compute Silicon & Manufacturing Engineering (CSME) organization within SCHIE focuses on the design, development, manufacturing, and packaging of Microsoft's state-of-the-art computer chips, notably the Azure Cobalt, providing sustainable strategic advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Lead supplier quality engineering roadmap for Microsoft custom and semi-custom SoC development.
  • Drive methodology and requirements for onboarding new suppliers and manage NPI product ramps.
  • Develop methodologies for quality strategies at OSAT, ODM, Foundry, and indirect material suppliers.
  • Establish qualification criteria and reliability plans at supplier companies to derisk future Microsoft products.
  • Define supplier benchmarking methodology and conduct supplier audits as required.
  • Lead investigation and resolution of high-impact quality events, driving RCCA and CAPA activities.
  • Interface with internal teams from silicon to system to datacenter to drive end-to-end quality leadership.
  • Understand key system-level dependencies and identify NUDD (New, Unique, Different, Difficult) elements in NPI roadmaps to drive FMEA activities for risk mitigation.
  • Drive DFM, DFR, and DFQ initiatives.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 1+ year(s) technical engineering experience.
  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience.
  • Equivalent experience.

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check (required upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter).
  • Access to export-controlled information, requiring proof of citizenship, U.S. residency, or other protected status (e.g., under 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)). Verification may include a valid passport or applicable documents for lawful permanent residents, refugees, and asylees.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, AND 1+ year(s) technical engineering experience.
  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, AND 4+ years technical engineering experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science AND 5+ years technical engineering experience.
  • 5+ years experience in manufacturing and supplier quality engineering.
  • 5+ years experience in semiconductors and hi-tech manufacturing industry.
  • Understanding of new technologies like advanced silicon process nodes, TSV, CPO, etc.
  • 5+ years experience defining quality management system methodology and implementation.
  • 3+ years experience in SoC product qualification and interactions with board and system level.
  • ASQ CQE certification, VDA audit certification, Six Sigma Black Belt Certification, or ISO certification.

Pay

The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. For specific work locations within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range is USD $160,200 - $261,000 per year. Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
