About the role
The Senior Substation Project Engineer leads and coordinates all technical aspects of HVDC projects, ensuring alignment with customer needs and project specifications. They manage project timelines, budgets, and quality control, and serve as the technical liaison between internal and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate technical aspects of HVDC projects, ensuring alignment with customer needs and project specifications.
- Develop and update schedules, manage design reviews, optimize designs, and ensure timely delivery.
- Manage project risks, conduct quality control, and maintain project documentation.
- Interface with internal and external teams, including project managers, designers, and suppliers, to ensure project success.
- Oversee the creation of power single line drawings, plan and elevation drawings, and other technical documents.
- Manage project Bill of Materials (BOM) and Material Data Lists (MDL), ensuring accurate and complete documentation.
- Provide technical support to customers and project managers, handling technical issues and changes.
- Ensure compliance with customer engineering Critical to Quality (CTQ) requirements and manage engineering subcontractors.
- Support proposal and tender processes for HVDC or substation projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience in Transmission & Distribution substation engineering for electric utilities and renewable energy power plants.
- Experience in substation type applications, including primary (outdoor) substation design and required studies.
- Professional Engineering license in the United States.
- Strong knowledge of North American standards & guidelines, local Grid Codes, and related equipment.
- Experience with HVDC projects and technology.
- Field-testing and commissioning experience with safe work habits.
- Demonstrated electrical and mechanical troubleshooting capability.
- Excellent personal computer skills, including programming and design automation, and familiarity with AutoCAD.
Qualifications
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 20%, including international travel.
- Desired characteristics include strong knowledge on High Voltage substation North American standards & guidelines, local Grid Codes, and related equipment.
