The Senior Substation Electrical Engineer III is a full-time, on-site role based in Akron, OH. This position is responsible for leading the design, analysis, and evaluation of substation and transformer systems, ensuring safety, reliability, and compliance with industry standards and customer requirements.

Responsibilities

• Developing electrical design documents
• Performing power systems and protection studies
• Reviewing technical specifications
• Providing engineering support for field maintenance, testing, and commissioning activities
• Collaborating closely with project managers, technicians, and customers to troubleshoot complex issues, optimize substation performance, and support long-term asset management strategies
• Mentoring less experienced engineers
• Contributing to best practices and standards
• Supporting continuous improvement initiatives across engineering and operations

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge in Electrical Engineering and Electricity fundamentals
• Skills in Electrical Design and practical application of engineering principles to substation and transformer projects
• Expertise in Power Systems and Power Distribution for industrial and utility environments
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field; advanced degree or professional licensure (e.g., PE) is preferred
• Several years of progressive experience in substation, transformer, or power system engineering, ideally in maintenance or reliability-focused roles
• Proficiency with power system analysis tools and relevant industry standards (e.g., IEEE, NESC, NEC)
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills, with the ability to handle complex technical challenges on site
• Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and customers
