About the role

In this senior-level engineering technician role, you will perform advanced functions requiring knowledge and use of electronic applications, standards, and document control processes/procedures in support of creating and modifying deliverables. You will provide technical guidance and direction to other engineering professionals, including delegation of work assignments. The ideal candidate will have 3D modeling experience. Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based upon manager discretion, job performance, and work assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Engineering Standards: Proactively provide guidance and direction by utilizing knowledge of standards, systems, document control, departmental guides, applicable codes, and Black & Veatch policies and procedures. Review project requirements and accurately determine the correct format and contents of required deliverables.
  • Quality / Continuous Improvement: Promote quality within the project, group, or section. Review design inputs to ensure consistency. Assist in ensuring deliverables comply with project-specific codes and standards. Responsible for drawing control and historical records using established methods. Demonstrate personal accuracy and drive continual improvement and change management efforts.
  • Engineering Production: Apply basic engineering principles and established design practices in developing moderately complex design concepts and deliverables. Exercise judgment in interpreting deliverables and input. Handle difficult technical assignments within your area of expertise and provide technical guidance to other professionals. Perform design calculations, detailed material quantities and estimates, and records. Use advanced applications (e.g., modeling and design software) in performance of work. May review deliverables of others, define work assignments, maintain schedules, program control systems, or participate in plant start-up activities.
  • Project Coordination: Coordinate with other design group personnel to review and exchange project information necessary for design development. May support field activities and communicate project design requirements, progress, and schedules.
  • Client Focus: Assist in identifying key client interests and drivers. Communicate client interests and drivers to project team members and develop approaches to accommodate these concerns.
  • Knowledge Sharing, Innovation, and Technology: Assist discipline or department management in developing and communicating appropriate design standards and process improvement activities. Identify training and development needs for personnel you supervise. May be recognized for expertise in one or more areas.
  • People Management: Assist with performance management processes, recognition, and corrective actions. Participate in career planning, learning, and development. Supervise engineering technicians, including mentoring, instructing, delegation of work, and providing feedback.
  • Resource Management: Assist in monitoring staffing levels and available skill sets for projects. Identify resource application needs and process requirements.

Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred; Bachelor Degree in an Engineering Design Related Technology also preferred.
  • Minimum of 11 years of related work experience; 8-11 years preferred.
  • Certifications as required by the role.

    • Advanced experience with AutoCAD Electrical (SDS) or Inventor (SDS).
    • Advanced experience with Protection & Controls drawings (AIS and/or GIS).
    • Intermediate knowledge of schematics, wiring, and panel fronts.
    • Advanced knowledge of engineering standards, systems, document control, departmental guides, and B&V policies and procedures.
    • Intermediate industry knowledge and technology trends.
    • Advanced knowledge of other disciplines.
    • Basic knowledge of construction and constructability practices and principles.
    • Intermediate knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides related to assigned engineering discipline.
    • Basic knowledge of procurement and contract administration.

Pay

The following compensation range is applicable for this job and location: $44.48 - $74.27 per hour.
