Senior Substation Communication Project Engineer

Primary Responsibilities

  • Knowledge and execution of technical aspects and deliverables of substation communication projects.
  • Reviewing existing communication infrastructure, current utility standards, and best practices to provide recommendations to the design team.
  • Developing RTU and EMS points lists and documentation of RTU data.
  • Executing testing and troubleshooting of device configurations in a lab environment.
  • Coordinating protective relay communication port parameters and data maps with system protection engineers.
  • Coordinating EMS database changes with utilities.
  • Providing technical and troubleshooting support for field technicians via telephone and email, with on-site support as needed.
  • Conducting quality control reviews of communication projects from peers and/or other teams.
  • Working independently and directing, mentoring, training, and supervising efforts of less-experienced EIT's and/or Designers.
  • Identifying and developing specific technical expertise under the guidance of Business Class Leaders, attending relevant training and seminars, and contributing to technical papers and presentations at industry conferences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Specific experience in substation communication and SCADA engineering, including Novatech suite of Orion RTU’s and associated NCD3 software, SEL suite of automation controllers, GE/Harris D20 RTU’s, ACS/NTX automation controllers, Schneider Electric/Modicon PLC platforms, and Citect SCADA HMI software.
  • Basic familiarity with relay test set equipment and usage of Microsoft Office and Power Market Sector design software.
  • Previous experience in an electric utility, architectural/engineering firm, or engineering consulting firm.
  • Local candidates preferred; some travel may be required.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience.
  • Professional Engineers (PE or P.Eng) license.
  • Extensive experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office and standard Power Market Sector design software.

Compensation Range

The expected compensation range for this position depends upon skills, experience, education, and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions. Temporary and part-time roles eligible for limited benefits.)
